Whose time is it anyway?
Time. The continuous progression of existence that flows from the job I'm leaving (1), through the two weeks break in between (2), and into the job I will soon start (3). Everything is made up and the following points don't matter. That's right, the points below are like those given out on a TV show I used to love [¹].
(1) The Past
Finish the work, draft a goodbye email, handover the work, strengthen the network (add people on LinkedIn and go for drinks). Talk about all the times that were, all the things that, with perspective, have carried no meaning into the future.
Scarper.
(2) A Present
Calculate the earnings sacrificed by taking a two week break, then imagine the all-inclusive holiday that could have been purchased with those earnings. Imagine what to tell people you did with your time off, then tell people what you're doing with the time off:
not much, but I am writing about it.
About not much?
Yeah
I have flights booked and tickets to see one of my favourite artists. But the show will be 3 hours tops, and the flights will be about 7 hours in total, so there's a lot of "not much" to fill.
(3) The Future
Start the work, draft a hello email (as if). Read the handover, prove and improve myself. Talk about all the times that are, and all the things planned that will carry value into the future.
