Naples at Night

If Instagram wanted to keep me logged in, it made two massive mistakes. The first was making reels unavoidable, somehow making my thumb move in such a way to squander days I've been gifted on this green and breathing planet. I used to delete the app to avoid this, but would periodically redownload it again to post a picture. I'd then take a little too long to delete it again, and even once I had, I'd still visit Instagram.com on my phone's browser, abusing my brain with cheap dopamine. You know the drill: scroll, scroll, rot.

When I went to post a picture (nothing special) recently, I stumbled upon their second mistake, which made me log out of the browser completely and vow to reduce reel consumption by 95% (no one's perfect, although I am now two weeks clean). The straw that broke the camel's back was that they changed the default profile view so that it shows your pictures as rectangles instead of squares. I never post stories, reels or anything else in the ratio that's more designed for showcasing a full-length figure, than my weird square observations. It made my pictures wear the disguise of a short form video thumbnail, looking all zoomed in and stupid. Those tidy squares were probably what encouraged me to downloaded the pre-Meta Instagram in the first place.

So I never posted the picture. Until today. Naples at Night.
